Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted that the redevelopment of the Dubai Creek wharf in Deira marks a key milestone in strengthening the city’s infrastructure. He stated that the project aligns with Dubai’s long-term vision and the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, enhancing the creek’s importance as a major hub for trade and tourism. He also emphasized that the upgrade reflects Dubai Municipality’s ongoing commitment to building a more innovative, sustainable, and globally attractive city.

Tourism and Infrastructure Upgrades

To help water flow better in the creek, 17,500 cubic metres of sand and debris were removed from the creek bed. Then, 24,000 cubic metres of protective rocks were added to make the area stronger and more durable. The construction team also used 22,500 cubic metres of concrete and 1,315 precast blocks to build stronger foundations.
A new 1,200-metre drainage system was installed to handle rainwater more effectively.
Overall, the project took more than 620,000 man-hours to complete, showing just how big and important this development was.

Better Cargo Facilities and Public Spaces

The quay area was expanded to 320,000 square feet, with improved cargo handling areas and a brand-new public walkway. This new promenade gives tourists and residents more space to relax, walk, and enjoy the waterfront.

Even as Dubai continues to grow and change, Dubai Creek remains a key part of the city’s culture, economy, and tourism. It blends the city’s rich history with its modern future, making it a must-visit spot for both locals and visitors.

The Dhs112 million makeover of Dubai Creek’s Deira wharf is a powerful step toward preserving the city’s heritage while supporting its future growth. With major upgrades to infrastructure, improved public spaces, and enhanced cargo facilities, the creek is now more ready than ever to welcome both tourists and traders. As similar developments begin on the Bur Dubai side, Dubai Creek continues to shine as a symbol of the emirate’s blend of tradition, innovation, and sustainable urban planning.
